Engineering Engagement Programme supports the next generation of engineers
At CH2M, we believe that our differences make us extraordinary, and supporting the next generation of diverse talent has a crucial impact on the work we do and the lives we touch across the globe. In an effort to attract and engage under-represented undergraduates and graduates from diverse backgrounds into the engineering profession, CH2M and the Royal Academy of Engineering, along with other leading employers, proudly hosted the Engineering Engagement Programme at the CH2M London Office on September 26 and 27.
Over the course of two days, participants learned employability skills, including CV and cover letter writing and phone interviewing techniques. They also had the chance to meet leaders, recruiters and engineers from participating organizations during group networking sessions.
All agreed that the programme was a huge success. “I came in to the Engineering Engagement Programme not fully sure if or where I would fit in the world of engineering, but I'm so glad that I attended,” said one participant. “Seeing a diverse group of like-minded engineering students, speaking to professionals, made me very excited for my future in this industry.” Another participant said, “Joining in this event has convinced me that a career in engineering will be diverse and exciting.”
“The Programme encourages us to look internally to ensure we are creating a culture that supports difference, innovation and creativity,” said Eleanor Radbourne, Global Head of Talent Management at Rolls-Royce plc. Mark Thurston, CH2M Managing Director agreed, “Diversity is not a choice for organizations anymore; it’s the way we do business. Events like the Employee Engagement Programme reinforce this message even more. It gives companies like ours an opportunity to access the wider talent pool and at the same time gives students an opportunity to engage with multiple organizations where they could potentially have a career. CH2M is pleased to have hosted this event and is taking the necessary steps to move towards a more diverse working environment.”
Events like this can be life changing for undergraduates and recent graduates across the UK. “This workshop is exactly what students’ need, especially ones who are struggling to get a positive response,” said one participant. “The workshop was a valuable opportunity for students such as myself… to network and help secure a dream job.”
