CH2M remediation technologists featured in leading industry journal special edition and Environmental Restoration Wiki

Global trends for improving site remediation management on the use of wastes and renewable energy for in situ remediation, integrating sustainability and improving technology options.

Jeff Gamlin, CH2M's senior technologist and subject matter expert for in situ remediation delivery, talks about recent featured articles in a leading industry journal and Environmental Restoration Wiki, both of which feature CH2M remediation technologists. Jeff has 18 years of experience facilitating application of best practices, technology transfer, and training of remediation technology practitioners. Jeff leads CH2M’s subgrade biogeochemical reactor (SBGR) technology function.

CH2M Remediation technology thought leaders are currently featured in a leading industry peer-reviewed journal and the new Environmental Restoration Wiki.

The special edition of the Journal of Environmental Management featured articles on key global trends for improving site remediation management by Paul Favara, Environmental Liability Practice Director, and myself on the use of wastes and renewable energy for in situ remediation, integrating sustainability and improving technology selection options.

renewable energy

In the first article Paul and I discuss utilization of waste and other non-refined materials as well as renewable energy for in situ remediation. It highlights the benefits of using a bottom-up approach during the planning stages to integrate sustainability and enables practitioners to think beyond traditional technologies and results in improved technology selection.

The second article by Doug Downey, Brad Shearer, Paul and I, details the CH2M Subgrade Biogeochemical Reactor (SBGR) technology that has been successfully implemented at 20 sites. Sustainable and cost-effective, the SBGR typically achieves 90% contaminant reduction after the first year of operation.

Enviro Wiki

The new Environmental Restoration Wiki (Enviro Wiki) is a go to resource for concise and well-referenced technical knowledge on more than 40 remediation topics. The wiki is managed by the US Department of Defense, Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP). CH2M remediation technology thought leaders were invited experts who contributed subject matter on five technologies to aid in cost effective and more sustainable and innovative site remediation.
