CH2M projects receive 2017 National Recognition Award by American Council of Engineering Companies
The American Council of Engineering Companies' annual Engineering Excellence Awards competition recognized CH2M for two projects that earned a National Recognition Award.
DENVER, May 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Council of Engineering Companies' annual Engineering Excellence Awards competition recognized CH2M for two projects that earned a National Recognition Award, a prestigious distinction honoring projects that demonstrate an exceptional degree of innovation, complexity, achievement and value. Projects that won at state-level EEA competitions were eligible for an ACEC 2017 National Recognition Award.

A distinguished panel of judges possessing a vast array of environmental and technical expertise selected this year's best engineering triumphs using criteria such as uniqueness and originality, complexity, and technical, economic and social value. The CH2M projects receiving awards were:
Iowa 100 Extension Project — Iowa Department of Transportation
The 8-mile IA 100 Extension project, located on the west side of Cedar Rapids in Linn County, extends IA 100 from its current terminus at Edgewood Road west and south to U.S. Highway 30 (US 30). The new access-controlled, four-lane divided highway includes three service interchanges and a system interchange at US 30. The project corridor was very tight with numerous sensitive environmental and right-of-way constraints. Innovative design approach techniques and solutions were implemented to manage these constraints and minimize project impacts within the corridor while also fulfilling the transportation need of the IA 100 facility. CH2M has provided a variety of environmental task work and preliminary and final design on Iowa DOT's IA 100 Extension project since 1999.
Geospatial Asset Inventory Program – Peachtree Corners, Georgia
The award-winning project grew out of the City's need to take stock of the signage, communication systems and related assets along 122 centerline miles of roads and rights-of-way in the city limits. Peachtree Corners opted to use LiDAR, a remote sensing technology that uses laser pulses to measure distance between points and produce maps. CH2M has performed public works, code enforcement and related municipal services for Peachtree Corners since 2013.
In addition, CH2M provided design services for two National Recognition Award recipients, Gerald R. Ford International Airport Drainage Improvements and the Sellwood Bridge Replacement project.
The ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards competition and black-tie Gala celebrate the innovation, expertise, and achievements of private engineering firms from throughout the nation. The awards Gala – known as the "Academy Awards" of the engineering industry – showcased National Recognition Award winners during a ceremony on April 25, 2017, in Washington, D.C.
