CH2M and Atkins named as designers on A14 Collaborative Delivery Framework for Highways England
The contract is engaged to deliver the project using a collaborative integrated delivery team working across the client, project management office, design and construction organisations to deliver best value for the scheme.
CH2M and Atkins have today (3 June 2015) been formally awarded the detailed design contract for Highways England’s A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon upgrade programme. A project which will see up to £1.5 billion of investment improving this major road in Cambridgeshire.
The contract, which has been awarded under Highways England’s Collaborative Delivery Framework (CDF) is engaged to deliver the project using a collaborative integrated delivery team working across the client, project management office, design and construction organisations to deliver best value for the scheme.
The detailed design contract is expected to be delivered over a period of five years, with the first 12 months focusing on the detailed design, modelling and value engineering of the project. The following period will consist of the joint venture working in a site assurance role once the construction phase is underway. This will involve overseeing the design stages for both the upgrading and new build elements of the project, ensuring detailed plans are being delivered as well as asset management and stakeholder management services to ensure the project’s legacy remains integral throughout all phases of delivery.
Chris Taylor, Director for Complex Infrastructure at Highways England, leading the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme, said: “The A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme is the first major award under the CDF and will enable delivery of up to £1.5 billion of investment. We have raised the standards we expect from our supply partners – we expect quality of performance and for them to work collaboratively to deliver the excellence that our customers and stakeholders expect of us.”
Alan Sharpe from the CH2M Atkins Joint Venture said: "The A14 scheme will bring a much needed and long awaited improvement to the road network between Huntingdon and Cambridge that will significantly improve performance of this stretch of road and provide a major boost to the economy in East Anglia. CH2M and Atkins are delighted to have been awarded the design contract for the scheme and look forward to providing our expertise and innovation to support Highways England in the successful delivery of this strategically important project."
