Based on Lilly, J.R., Ball, R.A., Curry, G.D., and McMullen, J. electronic monitoring of the drunk driver: A seven-year study of the home confinement alternative. Crime and Delinquency. 1993, pp. 462-484.

*Figures are included for jail time equivalent to electronic monitoring (EM) time and for jail time equal to 1/3 EM time, a more realistic estimate. These figures do not include the costs of new jail construction, which would have been required had these offenders been incarcerated. New construction would have added a minimum of $150,000 to $400,000 to County costs, and leased space would have been even more costly.

**Because actual EM costs were paid by offenders, the jail costs represent a savings to the County.
