CH2M HILL earned a Distinction Award for second place in two categories: Water Company of the Year and Desalination Plant of the Year for the PowerSeraya Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Plant.
The PowerSeraya SWRO Plant is located is Singapore and is the world's first full-scale seawater desalination plant to use large-diameter SWRO membrane technology. The project was successfully delivered by CH2M HILL as the engineer-procure-construct contractor over a fast-track project completion schedule. The plant was recognized for its use of 16-inch diameter membrane elements instead of the current industry standard of 8-inch diameter, resulting in significant capital and operating cost savings to PowerSeraya.
CH2M HILL was nominated for the Water Company of the Year award because of its work on several cutting-edge projects in 2007. According to Global Water Intelligence: "CH2M HILL proved itself again and again in 2007 to be at the cutting edge of engineering for the water sector, whether it is providing the technology for the largest UF membrane plant in the world, finding new ways to guarantee the water safety for Glendale, Arizona, or being the first to use 16-inch membrane modules in a major desalination plant.
"During 2007, CH2M HILL established itself as the leading 'green engineer' in the global water sector, through its involvement in Masdar, the Western Corridor water reuse programme in Australia, and the Fusina Integrated Wetlands Project."
"On behalf of CH2M HILL, I congratulate all of the award winners," says CH2M HILL Water Business Group President Bob Bailey. "The prestigious list of nominees showcases many of the clients we've worked with over the years. We're honored to be in their company receiving this important recognition."
IDA President and CH2M HILL Vice President Lisa Henthorne, accepting the awards on behalf of CH2M HILL indicated, "Our flagship projects such as PowerSeraya and Masdar have demonstrated CH2M HILL's leadership in application of cutting edge technology and we are grateful to our industry for recognizing our efforts and our continuing commitment to excellence."
CH2M HILL clients were nominated in several categories and include CH2M HILL's Singapore client, PUB, which received the Environmental Contribution of the Year award for its NEWater Programme, and the Town of Prescott Valley, Ariz., which won a Distinction Award in the Water Deal of the Year category for the town's wastewater auction. CH2M HILL OMI has operated Prescott Valley's wastewater treatment plant since 1993, and the town recently extended the partnership another five years.
