DENVER, 27 March 2007 — CH2M HILL, a global full-service engineering, construction and operations firm, today announced that Elisa Speranza, a vice president in the firm's Water Business Group, received the 2007 "Outstanding Service to AWWA" award from the American Water Works Association (AWWA). The award is given to individuals demonstrating outstanding service to the AWWA through leadership and active participation in its programs. Speranza also was named an AWWA Honorary Member.
In a citation approved by the AWWA Board of Directors during its recent winter meetings, the association said, "Elisa Speranza has always been the model volunteer for AWWA. What cannot be expressed in dates of service are the roles she has taken, her 'can-do' spirit and her willingness to get the job done."
Speranza has served as vice president and council chair for AWWA, along with numerous other leadership positions. She is currently vice president of Water For People.
"CH2M HILL is proud to participate in professional associations like AWWA that support our clients' interests," said Tom Searle, president, CH2M HILL Water Business Group. "Elisa exemplifies that commitment and embodies the highest ideals of service to the drinking water community. We congratulate her on this well-deserved honor."
A CH2M HILL employee-owner for six years, Speranza is global leader for the firm's Utility Management Solutions (UMS) business. The UMS team works with clients to identify and address their most pressing business challenges, then develops and implements solutions to help them sustain cost-effective operations.
Speranza works closely with utilities on organizational development, sustainable financing and infrastructure asset management issues. She has co-authored numerous AWWA reports including Water Infrastructure at a Turning Point: the Road to Sustainable Asset Management (with Stratus Consulting). She also was the project manager for the 2004 AWWA-sponsored study, Avoiding Rate Shock: Making the Case for Water Rates.
