Wildfire Relief

The National Weather Service reported that 2005 was the fifth-driest year on record for the northern and central regions of Texas, where during a 30-day period from December 2005 through January 2006, 3,310 fires burned over 589,000 acres. During that time, approximately 350 homes were destroyed. On January 11, 2006, an Extreme Wildfire Threat disaster was declared by the President of the United States for nine Texas counties. Similarly, on January 12, 2006, an Extreme Wildfire Threat disaster was declared by the President for twelve Oklahoma counties. Fourteen additional counties were declared on January 27.

Due to the level of service and ability to deploy quickly, as demonstrated during Hurricane Rita recovery efforts in 22 east Texas counties, CH2M HILL was issued $2.8 million in task orders to assist the Federal Emergency Management Agency in providing temporary housing assistance. The Texas CH2M HILL team, supported by departments throughout the firm, was able to leverage staff resources, equipment, and work processes to effectively serve the temporary housing needs of wildfire victims in the most cost-effective manner.

Within about a six month period, nearly 100 families were housed so that they and their affected communities could begin the rebuilding process.
