CH2M HILL to Design “Green” Transit Maintenance Facility in Illinois

DENVER, June 29, 2010 – CH2M HILL, a global full-service engineering, procurement, construction, and operations firm, will serve as the prime consultant for the design of a new transit maintenance facility for the Rock Island County Metropolitan Transit District (MetroLINK).

The state-of-the-art facility will be designed and built employing green technologies to reduce and conserve energy, improve air quality, conserve natural resources, enhance pollution prevention, and provide modern diagnostic equipment.  The facility will provide onsite fueling operations, both natural gas and diesel, along with vehicle cleaning and work stations for full maintenance capabilities for all MetroLINK vehicles.

MetroLINK is a multi-city public transit system serving the Illinois Quad Cities metropolitan area, and carrying approximately 2.5 million passengers annually.  MetroLINK is an active partner with the communities it serves, sponsoring unified and balanced growth, and transit-oriented studies in support of “livable communities.”  As a result, MetroLINK intends for this new project to be a showcase for the Federal Transit Administration’s Livable and Sustainable Communities Initiative.

This design project is a follow up to the Master Plan that CH2M HILL prepared for MetroLINK in December 2006.  CH2M HILL’s national transit maintenance facility team will fully support MetroLINK’s goals for the project.
