Planning, design, and construction for complex highway and bridge projects.
CH2M HILL provided design and construction management services to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for the Virginia Route 288 project, one of the largest highway projects awarded under the state's Public-Private Transportation Act of 1995. The CH2M HILL team scoped, priced, scheduled, and negotiated the project in approximately 4 weeks from notice of award.
Project elements included 10.5 miles of new four-lane highway and the expansion of 7 miles of existing highway from the Powhite Parkway (Route 76) in Chesterfield County to Interstate 64 in Goochland County. The scope of work also included six new interchanges; modification of two existing interchanges; construction of 23 new bridges; and a 3,600-foot crossing of the James River.
Completion of the Nevada Department of Transportation's (NDOT) Interstate 580 project depended on successfully addressing numerous environmental and community concerns. Sixteen years had passed since the initial approval, with an 8.5-mile-long extension between Reno and Carson City still remaining. In the meantime, steady growth and an increase in traffic continually underscored the need for the project, which reduces congestion and improves safety.
CH2M HILL developed the final design of the project, which provides a safer and more efficient route to serve growing traffic needs and is designed to blend with the terrain, minimize impacts, and be aesthetically pleasing. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2011.
Continuing our successful track record of supporting Olympic venues in North America since 1996, CH2M HILL is working with the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Partnerships British Columbia to improve access to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver and Whistler.
Within 24 hours of the International Olympic Committee's host-city selection announcement, we were selected for three significant assignments, including directing the overall development of the design-build-finance-operate (DBFO) program for the Sea-to-Sky Highway, the only route connecting the two venues.
