The TMSE project involved the addition of 10 pump stations to the existing Trans Mountain Pipeline system. It was successfully completed in 2007 and it increased capacity from 225,000 b/d to 260,000 b/d.
The TMPL system connects Edmonton, Alberta, to the greater Vancouver area covering 1,150 km. The TMPL system is an oil pipeline with a diameter of 24 to 30 inches and connects producers in Alberta with marketing terminals and refineries on the west coast.
CH2M HILL was responsible for the engineering for the entire expansion project and CH2M HILL Construction Canada was responsible for the construction of two pumping stations. These pumping stations were located in Finn, BC, and Blackpool, BC, which are approximately 100 km apart.
CH2M HILL Construction's scope of work included all aspects of construction for the pumping stations, including earthworks, foundations, structural steel, electrical/instrumentation, mechanical and piping. CH2M HILL Construction Canada was also responsible for the transportation and installation of prefabricated operator and electrical buildings.
The project was completed under severe winter conditions and all scheduled critical tie-ins were successfully completed.
